Transmission Flushing

What's the problem?

Identifying the symptoms is simple. In fact, it applies to almost every aspect of life. Anything that has moving parts is destined to wear out over time if not properly maintained. And with some things, such as cars, we can take this fact a bit further - even regular maintenance will not prevent some parts from wearing out. As usual, breakdowns happen at the most inconvenient time - however, with proper maintenance and flushing, transmission failure can be prevented.

Most people expect to experience one major transmission failure in the life of a car. This seems to lessen their commitment to properly maintain it. People go on the assumption that sooner or later the transmission is due to fail! The fact of the matter is: a transmission can last the life of the car. Herein lies the problem -- the typical transmission 'service' that is offered today is not enough.

Is this problem new?

Yes, and no. Most automatic transmissions hold between 12 and 18 quarts of fluid. During a normal service, the transmission pan is removed to gain access to the filter inside. The pan being removed holds between 4 to 5 quarts of fluid. Once the new filter is installed and everything is cleaned, the pan is reinstalled, with a new gasket. Before the engine is started, the 4 or 5 quarts that were lost are now replaced with new fluid.

In the past changing only one quarter of the fluid really didn't harm anything. In fact, until recently, it wasn't even an issue. However, modern transmissions have changed drastically. Sometimes with hundreds of moving parts, microscopic fluid channels, and computer controls, doing one quarter of the job just doesn't cut it! Leaving even the smallest piece of dirt floating in the old fluid can cause a transmission to fail. QuakerState (a reputable oil company) has released test studies with even further warnings. They now can prove that old transmission fluid, when mixed with new fluid, in fact causes dirt and debris to become mobile. This means that dirt that was, at one time, safely hidden silent in a crack or crevice, will now be released and move about, just looking for trouble! All the fluid needs to be perfectly clean, 100% of the time.

What's the solution?

The solution is simple. Using the new Total Transmission Flusher, as we do at LDG, Inc., solves the problem. This unit hooks directly to your transmission and pumps about 22 quarts of new, clean fluid completely through your transmission. This process forces all the dirt, sludge, and old fluid out and leaves clean fluid in its place. This service is the absolute best you can do to maintain your transmission. Doing a complete flush at regular intervals (30,000 miles) is sure to add many miles to your transmission and certainly help avoid costly and unnecessary repairs.
